Backup Manager

View Backup Manager

The Backup Manager section allows you to manage scheduled and on-demand backups to ensure workload and data protection.

Backup

Backup Management

  • Trigger Manual Backup: Trigger on-demand backups instantly when needed.
  • Enable or Disable Backups: Indicates whether backups are enabled for the cluster. You can disable it by switching off the toggle button at any time.
  • Filter by Namespace: Apply filters to include only workloads from selected namespaces, while also covering non-namespace resources.

Backup Management

  • Storage Location: View the storage location, including details like Storage Pool ID and Storage Pool name, where the backups will be written.
  • Backup Types: View all the backups created for the respective cluster along with their status and details including backup time, retention window, and frequency at which the backup always initiates.

Restore

Backup Management

  • Trigger Manual Restore: Trigger on-demand restore instantly when needed.
  • Enable or Disable Restore: Indicates whether restore is enabled for the cluster. You can disable it by switching off the toggle button at any time.
  • Restore Operation: You can view the list of restore requests initiated from available backups, along with details such as the destination cluster, the last triggered time, and the recurrence interval (for example, every 5 days or every 2 weeks).

Edit Backup Manager

The Backup Manager section also enables you to manage backup and restore operations for any cluster.

    • Select the type of the backup required for your cluster.
      • Full: Complete backup of data.
      • Incremental: Only changes since the last backup.
    • Confirm or Cancel via prompt.
  • Enable or Disable Backups: You can enable or disable the backup by toggling the button as per your requirement. Backup Management Backup Management

    • Cancel or Confirm if you want to retain the backup functionality for your cluster.
  • Edit Backup Policy: You can take backup of the whole cluster or apply filters to include only workloads from selected namespaces, while also covering non-namespace resources. Edit Filter by namespace

    • Choose the backup type for your cluster.
      • Full Cluster Backup: This will backup all the namespaces present in the cluster during the time of backup.
      • Choose Namespaces: This will enable you to select the namespaces that you want to backup. Filterbyname
        • Filter by Names: Select the namespaces by explicitly choosing their names. Filterbylabel
        • Filter by Labels: Use labels (key-value pairs) to automatically include namespaces matching those labels. Label
        • You can add a label by clicking on "Add More Label" button.
        • You can delete a label by clicking on the delete icon.
  • Configure Backup Frequency Settings: There are four different backup frequencies available at which you can take backups of your cluster, please find below the fields you can edit for each type of backup frequency if enabled for the given cluster. Backup Frequency

    • Click the edit icon under Actions to change the backup frequency settings.

Restore

  • Trigger Manual Restore: Trigger on-demand restores instantly when needed. Backup Management

    • Click on the Trigger Manual Restore button.

    Backup Management

    • Restore Destination Region and Cluster: Select the target region and cluster where you want the backup to be restored, based on your requirements.
    • Enable the option to overwrite existing resources in the target cluster if needed.
    • Restore Point: Select a Restore Point to recover the cluster data to a specific state in time.
    • Filter by Namespace: When restoring a backup, you can control which namespaces are included in the restore operation.
      • Filter By Names: Restore only the namespaces you explicitly select by name. Useful when you want to recover a few specific namespaces.
      • Filter By Labels: Restore namespaces that match certain labels. This is helpful in larger environments where you want to restore groups of namespaces that share common labels (e.g., env=prod).
  • Enable or Disable Backups: You can enable or disable the restore by toggling the button as per your requirement. Backup Management Backup Management

    • Cancel or Confirm if you want to disable the restore functionality for your cluster.
  • Edit Restore Policy: Restore Edit action

    • Click on the edit icon under Actions to configure restore settings.

    Restore Edit action

    • Restore Destination Region and Cluster: Select the target region and cluster where you want the backup to be restored, based on your requirements.
    • Enable the option to overwrite existing resources in the target cluster if needed.
    • Schedule the restore to run automatically at regular intervals.

Here, you can choose how to filter namespaces for restore. Restore Edit action

    • Filter by Names – Select specific namespaces to include in the restore. This option lets you precisely choose which namespaces’ data should be restored.
    • On selecting a name from the dropdown, you will be asked to enter the destination namespace. You will be able to see the mapping of source namespace with destination namespace and this results in more efficient restores.

    Restore Edit action

    • Filter by Labels – Use label-based filtering to target namespaces. Enter a key-value pair to find a specific namespace. This is especially useful in large environments where you want to narrow down restore jobs by applying labels.
    • You can also add more labels if required.

Click on "Update" to save the changes.
